Do’s and don’ts for paying part-time employees

Image
Do’s and don’ts for paying part-time employees   Source:   The  American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers ; Bookkeeping Tips Newsletter Do  withhold FICA on part-timers, including retirees.   Even if someone who works for you part-time also has a full-time job where they have had 100% of their FICA withheld for the year, you must withhold the full amount of FICA from their pay. "Classic" Payroll Adjustment Window

Image
Long time users of QuickBooks have sometimes lamented that the old interface to adjust everything in payroll is no longer there. For all of the improvements that payroll functionality has had, the loss of a simple way to adjust any payroll item in any period was missing. Well - good news. It isn't gone, just hard to find. With this simple trick you can get there. First, go to the help menu and select "About QuickBooks." Changes to Nevada Minimum Wage

Image
Hi, I'm the QuickBooks Gal. Today's Quicklet is a reminder to those of you who process your own payroll that on July 22, 2007 the new Federal Minimum Wage Law took effect. There are several guidelines that we employers should be aware of now in order to assure proper compliance. In addition, many state or local statutes may have been revised, so you might want to check with your state's labor commission regarding the new Federal guidelines and any additional state regulation that may apply. Here in Nevada, state minimum wage regulations are impacted by a law that became effective on July 1, 2007. If you do not use a payroll company such as ADP , Odyssey Business Services , or Payroll Systems of Nevada , you should make sure that you understand the new statutes with particular regard to how hourly overtime is calculated in order to assure that you are in compliance. I've put a link on my blog for Nevada employers who want more information on the new state regulation...
