QuickBooks Minute - Open QuickBooks with No Open Company

Got a QuickBooks Mess? Call the QuickBooks Gal!

Welcome to today's QuickBooks Minute.
I’m Jayne Miller, the QuickBooks Gal.

Do you ever wish you could open QuickBooks without an open company file? If you are a consultant or a bookkeeper with several company files, or you would like to open the software without opening a file (maybe someone is in your office and you don't really want them to see your file if you are not able to close it quickly enough).

There is a simple way to do this:

Just hold the control key when you open QuickBooks (any version - opened from any where - i.e. desktop shortcut or Start menu) and QuickBooks will open without an open company file.

Try it...it is really great if you are a consultant who might be seeing a client in your office...you really don't want them to see either your QuickBooks file or a client file that you may have been working in before they came to your office.

That's today's QuickBooks Gal minute.
Please come back for more tips and tricks for QuickBooks users.

I’m Jayne Miller, the QuickBooks Gal. Thanks for listening.

  1. Hi,

We are running QB2013. This doesn't seem to work anymore.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jake

    1. Jake,
Thank you for you question. As long as you hold the control key as QuickBooks is opening it should still work in QB2013. QuickBooks will open with your list of companies, but no specific company will be open in the background.
